The Calculus of the Batting Average

In my newest post at Cricinfo's Cordon, I propose a modification to the conventional batting average to overcome the outsized influence not outs as well as infrequent high scores on a player's average.

Here is a companion video I made. The score described in the post is basically the area under the curve for each batsman. Scores for some top batsmen are given in the tables below. The tables are sorted first by the Score and then by the player's career aggregate.

I have previous proposed to use the Hirsch index for batting in Test cricket.
